Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of teeth. Unsightly or mis-shapen teeth can be disguised to blend in with your other teeth.
A veneer is a tooth coloured facing to the tooth, it can be either porcelain or composite. Veneers are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond, so usually very little preparation of the tooth is needed.
A precise shade of porcelain or composite is chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth (usually the upper ones) generally. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others. Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy.
Sometimes veneers can wrap nearly all the way round the tooth. Sometimes the tooth has to be prepared a lot to make the veneer the correct shape, although we always keep them as thin as possible. A veneer is an irreversible treatment to the tooth, it is never really possible to take one off and have your tooth the same as it was before. It is always a big decision to provide veneers for teeth and we will discuss the implications with you thoroughly before we commence this type of treatment.
