Yann enjoys looking after his patients with a considerate, gentle and thoughtful approach while always aiming for clinical excellence. Yann listens carefully to what his patients say to make sure that they get the result they are looking for. Yann has a diploma in dental acupuncture- acupuncture can be used to treat bruxism, anxiety and sinusitis.
Yann is originally from London, moving up to Edinburgh to train at Edinburgh Dental School. He was a member of the Dental Students Committee and editor of the Student Gazette. After graduation in 1984 Yann was a house officer at Sheffield Dental Hospital, then worked as an associate in Glasgow. Yann and Gilly took over Mr Stead Woodburn’s practice in Chester Street in 1987.
He completed the MFGDP degree in 1998. Yann has an interest in clinical governance and research and was Honorary Research Fellow at Edinburgh Dental Institute from 1996-2009. His thesis “Peer review as a method of continuing professional development among general dental practitioners” was awarded DDS in 2002.
Yann was secretary of the Royal Odontochirurgical Society of Scotland from 2007-2012, and was president in 2015.
Yann was an instructor for clinical dental technicians at Edinburgh Dental institute for a year until December 2012. He attended a 1 year certificated course in Cosmetic dentistry and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry at Advanced Dental Seminars in London in 2013.
Yann and Gilly have 4 sons. Yann loves cycling, cooking and is working hard on improving his French.

Gilly loves taking care of her patients, with a preventive and minimally interventive approach. Gilly has come to enjoy dentistry more and more as its emphasis has changed from intervention to prevention and improvement of appearance. Gilly loves bonding, and making beautiful Cerec restorations. In the last few years as dentistry has changed rapidly Gilly has kept right up to date.
Gilly decided to be a dentist after having a Saturday job as a dental nurse. At Edinburgh Dental School she was social secretary of the Final Year Club and the Dental Students Society. She starred in the student play and also composed and performed her own song “Will I get to be a dentist before the Russians come” at the student revue. Around this time she met a young student from the year below- Yann.
Gilly qualified from Edinburgh University in 1983, went into general practice and worked in various practices around Edinburgh before buying the practice in Chester Street with Yann in 1987. She also worked in Community dentistry for a short time.
Gilly is a member of the Royal Odontochirurgical Society of Scotland and a regular attendee at the Lothian Independent Practitioners round table study group.
From August 2011- August 2012 Gilly attended a 1 year certificated course in Cosmetic dentistry and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry at Advanced Dental Seminars in London.
Gilly and Yann have 4 sons. Gilly loves cycling, especially in the Pentland Hills on her mountain bike, going away in the camper van with Yann, and she also enjoys judo and going to the gym.

Gary’s role within the team at Stafford Street is to provide endodontic therapies. Gary has a keen eye for detail which is enhanced by his use of an operating microscope to ensure the best possible results from treatment.
He understand that patients don’t usually enjoy dental treatment so he always makes a point of ensuring as much comfort for his patients as possible throughout any treatment procedures.
Gary has recently completed the PG Certificate in endodontics, awarded by the University of Chester, which is the first part of the MSc programme. Developing his skills towards a speciality within dentistry is a really good change of direction for Gary, as he has previously worked in general practice and been principal of his own practice for 10 years.
Gary lives near Dundee with his partner Yvonne. They are both keen tennis players and also enjoy keeping fit.

Nick is our visiting oral surgeon, he sees patients on a referral basis from other practices as well as our own. Nick previously worked as a Consultant Oral Surgeon in the Edinburgh Dental Institute and had experience before that as a Dental Officer in Papua New Guinea. He has published widely across the field of his specialty including dental health surveys, clinical outcome audit, implantology, various Oral Surgery techniques as well as epidemiology in relation to the effects of bisphosphonates.
Nick’s main interest now is the development of ‘atraumatic extraction techniques’. He is a very calm and laid-back person, which is much appreciated by his patients.
Dentist with Special Interest in Dental Implants

Martyn joins the practice in the of Dentist with a special interest in Dental Implants. Martyn graduated from Dundee Dental School in 2012 and spent the next 5 years working in both General Practice and Implant Dentistry in Crieff under the mentorship of one of the largest providers of dental implants in Scotland. After gaining a wealth of experience and knowledge from several hundred hours of observations and assistance, Martyn went on to train in the surgical placement of dental implants and is now working towards a Post-Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology. He is also a member of the International Team for Implantology (ITI).
Martyn now provides implant dentistry for Stafford Street and 2 other clinics in Dundee.
Martyn believes that dental implants are only one part of achieving an optimal result for his patients. To this end, he has completed a 2 year post-graduate program in Advanced Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry through the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry. This allows him to provide holistic treatment plans which meet every patient’s individual expectations both for longevity and cosmetics. To this end, he has also undertaken training in Cone Beam CT Scanning which allows him to digitally plan implant cases with excellent accuracy.
Outside of dentistry, Martyn enjoys road cycling and football and can often be found training for his next cycling event!

After graduating from Dental University in Macedonia, Kate moved to London where she went on to pass dental exams at Guy's and Thomas' Hospital - Kings College (2006). Following this Kate moved to Scotland where for 13 years she worked in Community dentistry and as an associate dentist in private practice in the Scottish Highlands.
Kate gained her masters degree in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry from the University of Manchester in 2016 as well as completing membership exams for both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners in London.
As a cosmetic dentist, Kate is passionate about helping patients find confidence that extends beyond their smile. This is achieved by using tailored facial aesthetic treatments to make the face look years younger.
Kate is also a fully certified Invisalign Go provider using align technology to align teeth using clear trays without the use of invasive wires.
Kate takes pride in providing high quality dentistry with a definite health benefit being at the forefront of everything she does.
Dental Hygiene Therapist

Originally from Shropshire Isobel came to Edinburgh to Study a degree in Oral Health Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. She started working at Stafford street in 2017.
For Isobel the most rewarding part of the job is helping people achieve healthy and confident smiles.
When she gets the chance Isobel loves travelling and exploring new places. Outside of work Isobel likes to keep fit though swimming, yoga and going to the gym.
Welcome Team Manager
Andrea is qualified as a dental nurse and has worked here for over 10 years, taking a break in the middle to have her sons.
Andrea is friendly and chatty and loves spending time getting to know our patients. She also manages the Welcome Team and is involved in training new team members.
In her spare time Andrea takes care of her sons and has recently taken up Commando Training.
Ashley has worked with us for over 30 years. It is her job to make sure the whole place runs smoothly. She organises the day, tries to keep the team happy and ensures systems run smoothly. Ashley completed a National certificate in primary care management in 2004. She is also a qualified dental nurse.
Ashley also does dog walking and doggy day/night care in her spare time. Best characteristic: can nearly always solve any problems that are thrown at her!
When not working you will find her in the gym keeping fit or at her static caravan where she spends most weekends.
Dental Nurse Manager

Lisa started dental nursing in 1999 and qualified in 2007 from Telford College in Edinburgh. She has been with the team at Stafford Street since 2009.
Lisa is also the Nurse Manager and she oversees all the dental nursing, decontamination, nursing protocols and is responsible for training new dental nurses, always it seems. with a smile!
Lisa enjoys taking her dogs for a walk especially along Portobello Beach on a sunny day. She also enjoys doing home improvements.

Originally from Poland, Magda moved to Scotland in 2011. She is a dental nurse with NEBDN qualifications and Dental Radiography Diploma, joined the practice in 2018.
Magda regularly attends seminars and courses for dental nurses in Scotland and England. Her major interests, aside from general dentistry and orthodontics, are dental implants.
In Magda's spare time she tries to improve her German language and enjoys Krav Maga self-defence classes. She volunteers for dental pain free clinics in Malawi and is also interested in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and body language.
