Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a medical treatment that uses fine needles inserted through the skin and usually into underlying muscle. Gentle stimulation of theses needles (there is usually more than one) produces both local therapeutic effects and distant ones in various parts of the central nervous system.
Dental applications include suppression of the gag reflex during particularly uncomfortable procedures such as the taking of impressions or x-ray photographs. It can also be used to reduce patient’s anxiety about dental care whilst in the chair (and sometimes away from the practice , using ear-studs).
Most people have some response to acupuncture, some greater than others. A small percentage appear not to experience any, or only very little benefit. Overall, almost all the patients treated at Stafford Street dental care over the last 5 years have said that there was a beneefit & that the treatment was worthwhile
Costs are £20 for acupuncture used in addition to dental treatment (which carries separate fees, detailed elsewhere). Or from £50 for treatment of specific conditions (e.g. Sinusitis, Temporo Mandibular joint pain and jaw/neck muscle pain). |
